Citizen Police Academy


The Inver Grove Heights Police Department is excited to announce openings for its 2019 Citizen’s Academy. The program is designed to offer citizen’s an inside look into the Inver Grove Heights Police Department’s operations. A wide spectrum of topics will be covered and include:
  • Tour of the police department
  • History of the police department
  • Functions of patrol, investigations, M.A.A.G, negotiators, bike patrol, traffic & K-9 units
  • Review of typical calls for service
  • DWI demonstration
  • Traffic stops, normal and felony stops
  • Officer survival, use of force
  • Laws of arrest
  • Searching and handcuffing a suspect

Additional Information


The academy classes will be taught by Inver Grove Heights Police Officers. We ask that you make a commitment to attend each session. The 2019 sessions will be held once a week, from 6 to 9 p.m. The sessions will begin in late August and run until the end of October. The dates are yet to be finalized, but will be updated as soon as they are confirmed.
 
After the successful completion of this program, citizens will be given an opportunity to ride-along with an Inver Grove Heights Police Officer during his or her shift.
