Police Department Update 3-18-20: Firearms Permits during emergency closures

COVID-19 is beginning to impact all of us. This week, our Mayor declared a State of Emergency locally. Out of an abundance of caution and a commitment to protect the health of our officers, staff and community, we closed City Hall, our Police Department and our Fire Department to the public for 30 days, through Friday, April 17.

Since this emergency closure was declared, however, we have received questions from residents regarding the processing and approval of Minnesota Uniform Firearm Application Permits to Purchase. In order to comply with state law and meet the needs of our residents, our PD is adjusting its closure plans.

Steps We Are Taking

  1. Any current Permits to Purchase that are complete and approved will be mailed to applicants by the end of this week.
  2. For all new Permits to Purchase, our PD office will open to the public on Mondays beginning March 23, from 8 a.m. to noon only, in order to process these requests. Applicants can apply in-person and should enter City Hall at the PD entrance on the righthand side of the building.
  3. If new Permits to Purchase are approved, they will be ready for pick up in-person at our PD office the following Monday from 8 a.m. to noon.

If you are an applicant who has questions, please call the IGH PD at 651-450-2525. Thank you for your patience as we continue to serve and protect our community during this challenging time.
