As part of the City’s Emerald Ash Borer Management Plan, six ash trees located on the island at Simley Island Park were removed based on their age and condition. In the spring of 2019, the trees will be replaced with new tree species.Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) is an insect that infects ash trees and ultimately kills the tree. Cities such as Eagan, Apple Valley, Cottage Grove and South St. Paul have known EAB infestations and are under quarantine. EAB has not been confirmed in Inver Grove Heights at this time. Following best practices in slowing the spread of EAB, the City has an EAB Management Plan that is used to guide efforts to keep EAB out of Inver Grove Heights. As a part of the efforts to manage the emerald ash borer infestation, ash trees on public property have been systematically removed over the last several years.
