As you pull out your holiday lights this year, don’t toss out your broken or unwanted light strings in your home recycling cart. These tanglers wrap around sorting machines and cause headaches at the recycling facility.
To properly recycle your lights, drop them off at the IGH Holiday Lights Recycling collection at the VMCC, Door A (8055 Barbara Ave.) now through January.
Holiday lights contain glass, aluminum and copper, all of which are recyclable but not in your regular home recycling cart. With help from ProAct Inc., every strand dropped off will be dismantled by vocational center clients and then properly recycled in Minnesota keeping valuable materials out of our trash.
To recycle your unwanted holiday lights and extension cords for free year-round, bring them to The Recycling Zone in Eagan (3365 Dodd Rd).
